Mulden

About

Mulden is the editorial side of a long-term personal project: applying academic rebalancing research to a single buy-and-hold ETF portfolio.

The editor is an independent long-term ETF investor with a research-science background. Investing is not the day job; it is the discipline built around it. The crossover into ETF analysis isn't the subject matter — it is the methodology: trust distributions over anecdotes, prefer primary sources to commentary, name the limitations of every analysis, and let the data tell you when you were wrong.

Editorial focus

  • ETF Analysis — head-to-head comparisons and deep dives, grounded in expense ratio, AUM, holdings, and historical performance.
  • Long-Term Strategy — portfolio construction principles for investors with multi-decade horizons.
  • Macro & Markets — interpretation of macroeconomic developments through a long-term investing lens.

The site does not cover short-term trading, market timing, or speculative instruments.

How the analysis is done

Numbers are pulled at write-time from yfinance for prices and total return, and from FRED for macro context. Rebalancing rules referenced in the writing are drawn from the published literature (Daryanani 2008, Vanguard 2024). The same rules are applied weekly to the editor's own portfolio through an in-house dashboard, so the writing is grounded in actual practice rather than theory.

Methodology

Numbers in Mulden articles are pulled from yfinance for prices and total return; FRED for macro context (10-year Treasury yield, Fed Funds rate, CPI, VIX); and the issuing fund's own fact sheets for expense ratio, AUM, and methodology details. The data window and "as of" date are stated explicitly in the article. Where the data has known limitations (short live track record, single market regime, capacity constraints), the limitations are named in the body, not buried in a disclaimer.

Articles are dated, and meaningful revisions are marked as "Last updated: YYYY-MM-DD" at the top of the post.

A note on values

Mulden is written from a stewardship frame: capital as something entrusted, to be managed with discipline rather than maximized at any cost. The editor is a practicing Christian (Presbyterian tradition); that frame appears in the worldview behind the writing — long horizons, patience, fidelity in small things — but never replaces the evidence-based analysis. Articles stand on their numbers and sources, not on shared values, and a reader of any background should be able to take the analytical content at face value.

Disclosure

The editor may hold positions in some of the ETFs discussed on this site. Material holdings are disclosed at the bottom of any article that comments on a position the editor owns. The site is reader-supported and may earn affiliate commissions on some outbound links; affiliate relationships are described in the Disclaimer.

Not financial advice
